5 Ways to stay productive when working from home.

Working from home is definitely a gift and a curse! We enjoy the flexibility that comes with working from home such as not having to commute back and forth to an office every day, as well as being able to dress comfortably, and lounge comfortably as you complete your work. However, we can't act like we don't notice that working from home can sometimes blur the boundaries between work and personal life! You ladies know exactly what we are talking about, especially those of you who like to work in the bed with your televisions on! Getting too comfortable while working at home can cause you to be less productive. So how do we stay effective, while working from home? Check out our tips and tricks that we think can work for self-employed women and free-lancers.

1. Set regular hours and stick to them.

Setting work hours will keep you on track and get you on a normal routine for a productive work day. Most hours are 8AM-5PM, 9AM-5PM, or 10AM-6PM. Figure out which hours work best for you, and try completing your work throughout those hours.

2. Define your work space within your home.

As we mentioned earlier in this quick read, do not work from the bed or on the couch! You will get way too comfortable and may even find yourself falling asleep. If you do not have an in home office with a desk, try working at the kitchen table, and keep your computer, notepads, ect organized on the table as if it were a desk.

3. Get dressed as if you were going to a work place.

Every morning, get in the habit of putting on real clothes to start your work day. This doesn't mean you have to put on business casual attire, but do not work in your pajamas or regular house clothes. You should also try taking your meetings via face time, incase you need a little more motivation for looking presentable while at home.

4. If you like to listen to music while you work, be careful what music you choose to listen to while you are working.

The type of music you listen to will influence your mood, so you have to be very careful what you choose to listen to. Try to stay away from "sing-a-long" songs, that will have you turning into Beyonce' instead of working. Try upbeat instrumentals that will keep your energy high.

5.Designate certain days for certain work.

Life's so much easier when your organized! Try designating certain days for your work load. This is an efficient way to make sure that you are prioritizing and getting all of your work done!

6. Give yourself normal breaks that you would take when working in an office.

Just as if you were working in-office, be sure to give yourself breaks. Especially your lunch breaks.

7. Create a to-do list

Make yourself a check-list of all the task that you have to complete throughout your work day. Make sure you write DONE next to everything you complete.

8. Know when to end your work day.

Do not over work yourself! Just because you work from home does not mean you should stay staring at the computer the entire day. When your work day is over, it's over. Make sure that you are using the rest of your time to get other things done, especially personal task or errands you need to get done.
